Just Mobile Giveaway: Gum™ Backup Battery For iPhone [WINNERS ANNOUNCED]

Last year, we reviewed Just Mobile’s Gum Max™ backup battery pack and were extremely pleased with its colossal 10,400 mAh capacity. Today, we’ll be looking at its smaller sibling, the thumb-sized Gum™ backup battery with a capacity of 2200 mAh, enough to fully recharge any of the current generation iPhones. Check out our full review after the break!

Specifications:

  • 3 micro-LED capacity indicators
  • 1A output
  • 2200mAh Li-Ion battery
  • Apple dock connector and USB-to-microUSB cables included
  • Travel pouch included
  • Apple certified – Made for iPod and iPhone

Review:

Available in 3 colour options i.e Silver, Black and Red, the Gum™ battery pack comes with a USB to micro-USB cable, an Apple dock connector adaptor, a carrying pouch and user manuals. While a Lightning to USB cable is not included, the battery is fully compatible with iPhone 5 and 5th generation iPod touch.

I like the idea of including a dock connector adaptor with a micro-USB cable since it eliminates the need of carrying around two cables i.e one for charging the Gum™ battery pack, and one for charging the iPhone. Also, Just Mobile might be planning to release a standalone Lightning connector adaptor for newer iPhone and iPod touch devices in future. The battery pack along with the cable and its dock connector adaptor fit comfortably inside the the included soft carrying pouch.

The thumb-sized Gum™ battery pack features the same matte aluminum body as the larger Gum Max™, that maintains Just Mobile’s iconic Apple-like design philosophy. The build quality is once again excellent that looks and feels extremely durable.

The top has three green LEDs which light up with a small push-in button telling you how much juice is left in the battery pack. The bottom lists dos and don’ts of the device. There is a micro USB port on one side of Gum™ for charging the battery pack while the other side has a regular USB slot for charing an iPhone, iPod touch or other USB-powered devices that take 5V 1A charge.

I’ve been using the Gum™ for the past few days and I have to say, I’m impressed. Not only does it provide one full charge for the iPhone 5, it does it pretty fast too. In fact, the ease of carrying around this ultra-compact battery in my pocket has taken away my fears of running out of juice on my iPhone during the final half of the day, especially when I’m not home. The only thing I’m missing right now is a Lightning connector adaptor, since I have to carry around my iPhone 5′s Lightning to USB cable with it. However, I’m looking to get an extra Lightning to USB cable pretty soon so, this will be resolved as well. ;)

I usually dont like these backup batteries and most of them are to big or ugly. I actually realy like the size of it and the little cloth pouch seals the deal for me.

You know I have always wondered how all these sites go about their contests with twitter and facebook etc. Would love some insight :)

One key piece of info is missing from this review…how long does it take to fully charge an iPhone 5 from little to no charge? “Pretty fast” is a bit subjective…

Can you stop the rule of having to like things on Facebook for your contests? Some of us don’t have Facebook accounts. (Okay I am probably the only one).

We can’t cater our contest entry guidelines to everybody, as that would get complicated. Some people don’t have twitter, facebook, or email.

If people want to win a free prize, they’ll have to follow the contest rules. Cheers.

No one is forcing you to enter this amazing contest, but should you want a chance to win then rules must be followed, no? :)

  • bradg17

Oh yeah, I would definitely agree that it’s awesome and if I really wanted in I’d make a twitter account. I think back when I stared reading this site about 5 years ago it was only email and/or commenting. But I understand the rules and it makes sense because the site gets promoted through twitter plus people get free stuff so it’s a win/win for everybody
