Microsoft Bing iPhone App Released

Microsoft was once at the pinnacle of technological innovation, but now they seem to have become stagnant, like your New Year’s resolution from last year (what’s that? It’s almost 2010?!). Microsoft launched their own search engine Bing (way too late) to compete with Google and now it’s available for the iPhone.

Bing iPhone App Now Available for Download–It’s Free

The Bing iPhone app was released yesterday and it’s a free download in the App Store. There is a Bing daily image on the homescreen that will keep things fresh. The app is very straightforward and allows searching the web, images, movies, maps, Businesses, News, and Directions. On top of that, there is a voice feature just like the Google Mobile app.

However, after trying to test the voice powered search feature, the app crashed immediately. This situation repeated itself and I still have not been able to try it out. Hmm…I guess we could call this a mini BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) moment.

There are some positives though. The web and image search is very accurate and easy to use. Photos are laid out in a very easy to browse format. Finding directions is also possible, although I find the map images to be downright ugly compared to Google Maps. If you’re looking for a great way to search images on the web, definitely check out the Bing iPhone app.
