$2.50/month if you buy a full year for ult. north america. I probably use about 200 minutes per month so for me it works out to be quite cheap. I've found skype to be just as good for calls as a regular call. There is a bit more of a delay, but it's well worth it.

cool.. but how about you (skype) make it so that the app doesn't put calls on hold when a SMS or any notification pops up. skype software is too inconvenient now, especially with fido offering unlimited long distance (canada-wide) for $20/mth… at the skype price, that's about 25 mins a day… i talk slightly less than that on long distance daily, and 3g isn't reliable enough to really tailor flexibly for everyone. might work when 4g gsm is mainstreem

Here is my experience with Skype, 3G & 3G Unrestrictor and the Pay as you go plan.
- It works well in quiet situations – As for driving in a car I find the sound quality isn't good enough
- Calls on skype are 2cents a minute after the 6 cent connect fee so you end up with a lot of 8 cent one minute calls
In retrospect I wish I knew how good Gizmo5 ($5.99), Google Voice and GV Mobile + ($?) was on the iPhone. With this you can get
-Quality is the same as Skype
- Free calls in North America
- You do not have to run application in background (A push message for a new call that opens Gizmo5 works just fine)
- You also get free SMS messages and Voice to text email forwarding
(Disclaimer: You cannot subscribe to Gizmo5 as a new user since Google bought them out – but works well if you already have a userid)

Unrestrictor really is. It's the best when you're travelling in the
States…and you can use your SkypeOut to call home and make local calls. I
love Skype!

Run the backgrounder app from cydia and it won't close skype off either

I can't believe I didn't know about the whole Caller ID thing in skype, ugh just did it! All the calls that could've been made because of me showing up as 000000011111

I don't think I've had that, but other incoming calls will close skype on me. If it's a big deal I just run backgrounder so it won't close it.

I have Skype and have jailbroken with 3G Unrestrictor and make calls ALL THE TIME over 3G and it is AWESOME. I have the $3/month unlimited North America wide Skype calling plan and my caller ID shows up as my own Cell Phone number. It is GREAT. Screw you Rogers and your BS rates. And by unlocking it, I use a US SIM card with a great plan when I cross the border and it still shows up as my home cell phone. Screw you AGAIN Rogers hahahah. The only drawbacks at this point are that the service is not so great on the Edge network, there is no bluetooth support, and YES the calls get cut out when texts or other pop up messages come up – which is a real problem, however, for the amount of money I'm saving it's well worth it. I've even cancelled my Shaw Digital Phone service that was $50/month unlimited North America coverage so… Screw You Too Shaw!! lol. I hope consumers have the nards to Class Action or the CRTC gets involved on the consumer's side if Rogers blocks it's use… it's about time Rogers gets a punch in the nose with their obscene monopoly rates and 6000% mark-up on text messages… Until the JAILBREAK!! Skype on 3G is THE BEST. I love it. (can you tell? lol)
