Will ‘iPhone 8’ Work on Freedom Mobile’s Band 66 LTE? Analyst Predicts Yes

Will Shaw’s Freedom Mobile ever support the iPhone on its Band 66 LTE network? According to Scotiabank analyst Jeff Fan, he believes Apple’s new iPhones next week “will support” the carrier’s LTE network, as detailed in a research letter to clients, reports MobileSyrup.

Fan explains, “We believe new iPhones that are compatible with Freedom’s LTE network, combined with the deployment of 700MHz and 2,500MHz spectrum will dramatically expand the addressable market for Freedom from a device perspective.”

Earlier this year, Freedom Mobile accidentally sold a knockoff iPhone 5s to a customer and apologized for a rogue dealer’s “mistake”, and made up for it by purchasing a new iPhone 5s for the customer from Apple.

When Freedom Mobile was known as WIND Mobile, the latter was selling refurbished iPhones via Ingram Micro in 2015, and the latter was told by Apple to halt sales. WIND Mobile CEO at the time, Alek Krstajic, blamed Bell for ratting out the deal, while the latter claimed they reached out to Apple because they also wanted to investigate selling refurbished iPhones in Canada.

The analyst says it remains whether to be seen if Shaw and Freedom will have an agreement to sell the iPhone. He does believe a trio of iPhones with Band 66 LTE support would help boost Freedom Mobile’s marketshare, saying it “could expand Freedom’s addressable market by over 12 million,” out of Canada’s 30.7 million wireless subscribers.

This is all speculation and means nothing.

If this analyst’s assumption is correct, then his conclusion will be accurate.

There’s a clause with the FTC requiring device manufacturers to support the AWS-3 spectrum for 2018. From my perspective there’s a 99% chance it will support that band.

It’s also speculation that we will live another day.

Walked by a few Freedom stores and kiosks the other day. Not busy at all. In one location they had a couple of grannies running the shop.

Apple will likely carry the new band. Apple is always behind in adapting to the new spectrums. I recall how they didn’t support high speed LTE when Samsung did.

I’m hoping there will be a surge of iPhone 7S and 8 buyers ditching robelus that the carriers have no choice but to offer us better plans to keep us. However, I’m also hoping for world peace, Trump will be impeached, and I’ll live to be over a 100 years old.

It is fact that I’m bored with your recent analogy ????

So zen. When a monk walks a circle he will see his past

I talked to some freedom mobile associates and they all said that they were going to be selling the iphone 8 when ot comes out, therefore it must support band 66

  • FragilityG4

Apple retail associates have no idea what Apple is going to do, you really think Freedom Mobile associates would have the inside scoop?

I’m not saying it’s not going to happen, but let’s be realistic— we won’t know until next week. Until then it’s all speculation.
