The gmail help section has explained the difference between the two for some time now, I’m pretty sure they had it back in July when I first got the iPhone.

The video is old, but the news about how the delete button works was never really explained by Google. Now it all makes sense because previously I have tried setting up via my account via “Other” and “Gmail”.

I did not know that setting up using “Other” would turn the trashcan into Archive, instead of delete. That is news to me and that’s what the Google team is trying to explain to us.

Try setting up an account via “Gmail” and then trying it again with “Other”. The delete button works differently. Just try it and then let me know.
