Unlock Coming Soon For New Baseband On 3.1.3

With the release of iPhone firmware 3.1.3, many users jumped the gun and updated causing a loss in both their jailbreak and unlock.

Tools are slowly becoming available to jailbreak the iPhone on firmware 3.1.3 however nothing has developed for an unlock on the current baseband 05.12.01 (becomes current after the 3.1.3 update).

Not being able to unlock the current baseband looks like it’s about to change as user “Sherif Hashim” has discovered an exploit which will allow the unlock of iPhone firmware 3.1.3 on the current 05.12.01 baseband.

MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev-Team has confirmed that the exploit is legitimate and working, so it is only a matter of time before release.

It isn't 'just a matter of time'. The iPhone dev team confirmed that it crashes the baseband however they're not sure if this crash is capable of becoming a full unlock.

It seems like you've 'jumped the gun' while writing this 🙂

  • Did you even read the Dev Team post? The post indicates that while it is too
early to tell, it is still possible.

  • Whaeva

Yes I read it and NOT ONCE it says 'it's only a matter of time'! I quote “It’s not even guaranteed that an working unlock will come from this particular crash — it’s just too early to tell.”

Please stop this pettifogging argument! I am not saying a lock won't come out of this find but at least I am not misquoting!

  • It does not matter if the Dev-Team article says “it's only a matter of
time”. We never quoted that from the article, hence it is irrelevant whether
we write about a time frame or not.

The article from the Dev-Team only indicates that it is too early to tell,
however it is truly only a matter of time before it comes out.

    Thanks for playing.

Like I wrote on my blog post about this

    http://bloguedegeek.net/2010/02/11/iphone-os-3-

I'm sure they're going to wait for 3.2 or even 4.0 before releasing this exploit. Right now, iPhone Dev Team has a lead over Apple and that could mean alot with unlocking the iPad or the iPhone on 3.2 or 4.0.

If I were them I would also wait.

  • Whaeva

    How dumb are you?

(Quote)It does not matter if the Dev-Team article says “it's only a matter of
    time”
NO IT DOESN'T SAY THAT! That's the whole point, you nincompoop! And I ain't “playing” anything, you pejorative little twit!

Get your facts right, plonker! Since you don't like positive criticism, there's some downright ugly one for you!

  • rorypiper

Yeah, they should keep this uderwraps until the next firmware. Sure, a bunch of people will be upset, but it's their own fault for updating.

The Dev Team will release when they want. They do not get paid for this. They do not owe the public anything. People should just be thankful for what they've gotten so far, and hope there is more to come.

Unlocking the iPhone seems to be so easy lately, why can't they make an untethered jailbreak for the iPod 3G or newer 3GS. Btw Alexander, iPads come unlocked so no worries about that.

I agree with the statement that people who updated their phones with out thinking was not a good idea, but there are other cases that are held in concern. Maybe it was just me that had this happen, but I had my 3GS on the 3.1.2
and was working great…..untill springboard froze on me and I couldnt get any where on my phone. So I had to restart my phone ( home and power press ). But something different happened. The phone would continually restart over and over and over. Apple was not signing 3.1.2 and there was not a help in the world ( at the time of desperation ) to even get the phone to stop restarting itself. Phone had to get updated to 3.1.3 and then get restored back to 3.1.2 with the Pwnage 3.1.5…..but no base band downgrade……..so for some of us….there was no choice……why my phone did that to me is still a mystery. So I had to get a new phone through rogers 🙁 and renew my contract :-(…….so then I jailbroke and unlocked the new 3GS with redsn0w and blackra1n……but for some reason now, every time I turn off my phone and turn it back on again, it goes into DFU mode! To get into my phone I have to use blackra1n EVERYTIME!!!! and everything is kept on my phone to normal.
So 2 wierd phone problems that I do not know why I have. Any thoughts from any one? Much appreciated…..from an iphone user and consistent iphone in canada fan!!!!Love this web site!

Why your first iPhone crashed is definitely a mystery, but that's the chance we take with jailbreaking. So many people take the jailbreak for granted. Obviously, updating was out of your control, in this case.

As for your new Rogers iPhone 3GS; it sounds like it has the newer boot rom, which means you have what's called a “tethered” jailbreak. The simple solution is: don't turn your iPhone off, and you won't have to worry about the DFU mode issue. At this time, there is no proper jailbreak for the newer boot rom.

  • It's just not that simple there is a bigger issue and inorder to have an untethered jailbreak you would have to physically install a older bootrom in your iPhone

I want to thank you so much for responding to my post and questions. It is a huge help for finding out the answers that I needed. I have wondered why those things have been happening for a long long time. I am hoping for the new 3.1.3 jailbreak to get my first phone working again and as for my new 3GS I am hoping for the new jailbreak to help my phone out so that I dont have to keep my phone on ALL THE TIME LOL ha ha ha….
thanks for all the hard work that you do…..if you have any other advice…..feel free to send it my way!!
    you guys are de beyast!
