Apple Acknowledges Telus As An iPhone Carrier

by Mr. Ex on November 5th, 2009

Just as Apple did yesterday with the launch of the Bell iPhone in Canada, Apple has now acknowledged Telus to be an official carrier of the iPhone.

Back on October 6 2009 Telus announced that they were bringing the iPhone to Canada. Telus announced this almost a month before their official launch on November 5, 2009.

Like with Bell, Apple never publicly confirmed that Telus was getting the iPhone. During the last month, only Rogers and Fido had been listed as official carriers of the iPhone in Canada on the Apple Store web page. Bell had their name added on November 4, 2009 which went along with the Bell launch of the iPhone on the same day.

As Telus released the iPhone today, Apple has finally updated their website to indicate Telus as a point of sale for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

I guess sometimes Apple just does not bother saying anything at all.

You can check out the screen shot below from Apple’s website or visit it here.

Does this mean Telus is a GSM carrier now?
  • rorypiper
Yes, but they haven't switched everything over, they have just added to there existing services.

So it'll take time for them to have a fully functional GSM network? cuz my mom is using telus and she wants to use my Roger's n95... and she wants to know if she can get a simcard with her number?
  • rorypiper
It's fully functioning now. It's not just the iPhone that they launched today. There's a few GSM/HSPA handsets available: BlackBerry Bold, HTC Hero, Nokia E71, LG New Chocolate. Apparently you can just go in and buy a SIM card with a plan, and use your own device, so as long as your n95 is unlocked, you'll have no problem.

ohh so I can just go to telus and ask to transfer my mom's number to a simcard? Thanks for the informations

So, it's official. Any initial reports? Any better than the Bell launch, yesterday?
