Review:

Available in two color options of Black and Silver, the Highway Pro ships in Just Mobile’s trademark black box. Opening it up reveals a dual-USB slot car charger, an Apple-certified coiled charging cable, a couple of stickers, product manual and a Just Mobile catalog.

The Highway Pro car chargers either sport a black or a silver diamond tread aluminum head with two USB slots. There is also a green micro-LED charge indicator at the top, much similar to the ones found on Just Mobile Gum Max Pro battery pack, only those are yellow in color. The two USB ports are distinctly labeled, one for the iPad which outputs up to 2.1 A while the other one has a maximum of 1 A output for optimized charging of both iPhones and iPods.

The Highway Pro easily plugs into your car’s cigarette lighter socket and also features a built-in fuse to protect charging devices from power surges. Apart from its neat aluminum construction, I really like how portable this lightweight, pocket-sized charger is. I can easily slip it into my pocket and carry it on a ride with my friend. I do however wish the included cable was a little bit longer so that a passenger at the back seat could use the device while charging.

I’ve found the charging times to be on par with the Apple’s own USB wall charger for both the iPhone 4S and the new iPad. The dedicated iPad USB slot allows simultaneous charge and use of the new iPad. I’ve noticed this issue with some low-end car chargers that only charge the new iPad when it is in sleep mode since their output is not strong enough to power the iPad’s Retina as well as simultaneously charge it. However, no such problems seen with 2.1 A output of Highway Pro’s dedicated iPad slot.

Conclusion:

I don’t see how a simple USB car charger that plugs directly into the cigarette lighter socket can get any better than Highway Pro. It is sleek, it can simultaneously power a smartphone and a tablet including the new Retina display iPad and is extremely portable, which makes it one of my “must have” road-trip accessories.
