Aeroplan for iOS Update Adds Ability to Book Flights [u]

If you’re an active Aeroplan Miles collector, the company has announced today their iOS app now allows customers to book flights right within the app, using their rewards. Bookings can be made for both roundtrips and one-way flights.

John Boynton, Chief Marketing Officer, Aeroplan, said in a statement to iPhone in Canada,  “Our goal is to bring our members’ journey to life, to help members get the flights they want, to where they want to go, faster. Whether on a bus or in an airport, all our members need to book a flight reward is a smartphone, and now they can also do that on Android, iOS and Blackberry.”

To book a flight, users just need to navigate to the ‘Use Your Miles’ section and select ‘Book a Flight,’ select a desired destination city/airport, enter in a date and tap ‘Done’.

Potential itineraries will populate showcasing two Aeroplan travel options: Fixed Mileage Flight Rewards (limited number of seats exclusively offered to members on Air Canada and Star Alliance) and Market Fare Flight Rewards (access to any seat, at any time, on all Air Canada flights based on market fares at time of booking).

A Trip Summary page will appear at the end, where you then just enter in passenger details and payment info.

The update also brings better account management, as now members can view history, transactions, Aeroplan status and more. While there is a digital version of your Aeroplan card within the app, unfortunately no Wallet support has come yet, nor Touch ID for logging in.

Update: an Aeroplan spokesperson, reached by email, commented “we are committed to Touch ID and there will be more to come on a broader Wallet strategy.”
