Chrome for iOS Now Way Faster, Crash Rates Reduced by 70%

Chrome browser for iOS has just received some fresh updates for the new year, making the app more responsive, for a faster and a more secure mobile browsing experience.

For starters, the WKWebView from Safari introduced in iOS 8 has now replaced UIWebView, making web browsing and JavaScript performance significantly faster. Also, background tabs will reload 25% less often thanks to WKWebView.

Check out the JavaScript performance chart comparison below:

Engineers say these changes make Chrome for iOS “significantly faster and more stable”, allowing users to resume from where they left off browsing on another device, similar to the way Handoff feature works for Safari.

You can pick up where you left off browsing (on any device) without worrying about Chrome crashing on misbehaving webpages. In fact, tests show that the latest version reduces Chrome’s crash rate by 70 percent and speeds up JavaScript execution significantly.

Also new is a redesigned New Tab page, while Spotlight integration makes it easy to find your Chrome bookmarks.

Additionally, the desktop version of Chrome is also being updated with features to help you manage your data usage while using public WiFi, among other security improvements.
