Google has just announced it will now bring information regarding electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to Google Maps, now available in Canada and beyond.
Today’s launch on Google Maps for iOS and Android means you search for “ev charging” or “EV charging stations”, you’ll now get a display of the nearest stations. Google explained to iPhone in Canada in an email, search results will show “information about the business where the station is located, the types of ports available, charging speeds, and how many ports there are.”
There will also be information about stations from drivers, such as photos, ratings and reviews and questions. If businesses support a charging station, they will feature a link sharing more info about chargers.
For Canadians, Google Maps will show Tesla and Chargepoint charging stations, as part of today’s launch.
Google Maps now supports charging stations around the world, including:
- Global: Tesla, Chargepoint
- US: SemaConnect, EVgo, and Blink
- UK: Chargemaster, Pod Point
- AU & NZ: Chargefox
According to Google, the company says Canada is among the top three countries with more EV charging stations, with over 1000.
Google Maps for desktop will gain results for EV charging stations “in the coming weeks.” Those looking to get started with Google Maps for iOS can start by downloading the latest update in the App Store.
Update: Flo has announced it has partnered with Chargepoint in Canada and the USA:
FLO and ChargePoint, today announced a landmark roaming partnership that provides electric vehicle (EV) drivers across North America a seamless charging experience.
