Shopping And Cooking With iFood Assistant For iPhone

iFood Assistant is a great application that helps to streamline food shopping and to help prepare delicious and satisfying food right at home. Whether you are a seasoned chef or a have never cooked anything outside the microwave, the app provides a great convenience of having recipes available on your iPhone or iPod touch.

iFood Assistant provides a ton of meal ideas for cooks of all skill levels. The app aims to make meal times easier, less stressful and more fun for Canadians. Plus, it’s healthier (and cheaper) to make something at home rather than going out all the time!

The app includes an exhaustive 5,000 recipe database that includes many different food types and meal planning ideas. Recipes can be searched by categories, preparation time or by healthy living. Recipes feature easy, step-by-step directions with photos and simple shortcuts and also have a great landscape view to follow along with while cooking. Users may also review comments on recipes and share with others.

Two areas within the app labeled “Dinner Tonight” and “Recipe of the Day” features daily dishes on great ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or anytime snacks.

The app also gives users the ability to create shopping lists so they can buy what they need for a specific recipe. Users can also save favorite recipes in a personalized “Recipe Box” and add the ingredients with the “Shopping List” feature. Custom ingredients may also be added to the list (this is nice).

One of my favorite features is getting access to step-by-step how-to videos and seasonal entertaining/dining tips. Sometimes it’s easier to use a visual aid rather than reading off of a list. Plus, for me, tips are always welcome!

The app also includes a helpful alert system where users can set alert reminders to receive “Recipe of the Day”, “Dinner Tonight” and “Special Offers”. Offline sync also enables key functions when users are offline.

In addition to the iFood Assistant app, Kraft Canada has designed a mobile website where users can meal plan on-the-go. Users can visit m.kraftcanada.ca, and view the recipe of the day, look up meal ideas, and search recipes on their iPhone or other wireless device. The mobile site is essentially a subset of the app, so either one can be used (but there are more features available on the app).

iFood Assistant is available on the iTunes App Store for $0.99.

There is also a Lite version available that loses most of the main features and offline access, but it is a great download to get a taste of iFood Assistant.
