Retro Weather, created by Winnipeger Gary Kash, is a retro weather app made to simulate TV weather reports from the 1980s and 1990s.

The app brings back memories of reading weather reports on your old TV in plain text and it’s currently the #1 app in the Weather category in the Canadian App Store.

“Retro Weather is a hand-crafted Canadian weather app made just for your device. It has been meticulously designed to look and feel like the original public weather channel from your childhood with a few modern conveniences. Swipe left or right to quickly find the screen you’re looking for or just be the patient human being you are and let it advance for you,” explains the app’s description.

The app provides current conditions, 5-day forecast, provincial conditions and also has weather advisories. Retro Weather also has Winnipeg’s CJNU Nostalgia Radio station built in.

“I think we all have memories, growing up through the ’80s and ’90s and having our TVs on and everybody kind of tuning in to the weather,” Kash told 680 CJOB, according to Global News.

“Really fond memories, I’m discovering. Everyone’s reminiscing. I’m not alone, I guess,” he added.
