Apple Releases OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive For $69

When Mac OS X Lion was released, it was available as a “Download only” option using the Mac App Store. For existing users of Snow Leopard, the update was priced at just $29.99. However, tons of tutorials begin to float all over the web guiding people who had already downloaded OS X Lion on how to create a backup USB thumb drive or DVD for OS X Lion, mainly to install on multiple operating systems without having to re-download. But now, Apple has officially released a licensed USB thumb drive for Mac OS Lion selling for $69 at the Apple stores.

Currently, the shipping times for thumb drive are listed as  1-3 business days which should soon come down to 24 hrs. Also, the installation requires 7GB of available storage space on your compatible Mac computer’s hard drive. It is important to note that using the USB thumb drive will disable OS X Lion online recovery tool even if you have already purchased / downloaded it from the Mac App Store, meaning you’ll only be able to reinstall it using the thumb drive.

When you install OS X Lion using the USB thumb drive, you will not be able to reinstall OS X Lion from Lion Recovery. You will need to use the USB thumb drive to reinstall OS X Lion.

You can order your OSX Lion official USB thumb drive at Apple’s online store right now or wait till it makes it your nearest Apple Store.
