Apple Delays ‘Find My’ Support for AirPods Until “Later This Fall”

Apple has recently updated its iOS 15 features page and has signalled that the ‘Find My’ network support for both AirPods Pro and AirPods Max has been delayed until “later this fall”. It appears as though the feature will no longer be ready for use upon the launch of iOS 15.

The change on the feature page was first noticed by MacRumors. The Find My network feature will now be available later this fall alongside other notable features from Apple including SharePlay, Legacy Contact, and deeper Wallet app support. Although the Find My network support for AirPods Pro and AirPods Max will only be delayed a short while, Apple has not indicated the reasoning behind the delay.

The Find My network feature enables a user to better help find a lost pair of AirPods Pro or AirPods Max. In the event that the device is lost, the user can rely on someone else’s iPhone, iPad, or Mac that’s nearby to relay an approximate location of their headphones in a secure and private way. The Find My network feature is specifically designed to get the owner of the AirPods close enough to the device that they can play a sound and locate them for retrieval.

iOS 15 will be available starting today, Sept 20. It features redesigns for notifications, Safari, and enables iOS users to FaceTime with non-Apple users. The free OS update will be available on devices ranging all the way back to iPhone 6S and the original iPhone SE.
