Leaked Intel Roadmap Suggests Chip More Powerful Than Apple’s M1 is Expected in the Next Two Years

A leaked roadmap from Intel suggests that the development of a chip more powerful than Apple’s M1 is underway. The 15th-generation Intel CPU known as ‘Arrow Lake’ is reportedly expected to launch in the next two years.

Since the breakup between Intel and Apple occurred, it has been an arms race between the two companies on who can develop more powerful silicon. Apple first introduced its M1 chip in November 2020. Since that time, Intel has attempted to one-up the iPhone maker. Although Intel’s efforts have been respectable, the chips introduced have often waned in one aspect or another. Though, that may be coming to an end.

As leaked by AdoredTV (via Wccftech) a major roadmap from Intel shows that Arrow Lake intends to beat Apple’s M1 in every aspect. Intel is said to be pooling its resources and working with TSMC to utilize 3-nanometer node technology. The Arrow Lake CPU is reported to have multiple cores to tackle proficiency and performance. All around, it appears as though Intel hopes to capture much of what users and critics have praised the M1 chip for accomplishing.

While the good news is that Intel may finally be catching up to Apple’s innovations, the bad news is the wait time. The report states that engineers’ samples won’t be ready until the end of 2022. Final production of the chips is expected in Q3 2023, meaning Arrow Lake won’t be on the market until the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024 at the earliest.

This modest window of time gives Apple enough wiggle room to not only develop but release a true successor to the M1 chip to the market. Although the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are available, many are looking towards the future for the M2. The newly designed chip is expected sometime this year. Some reports have even pegged the M2 to be introduced as early as next month. It will be interesting to see how Arrow Lake’s innovations end up stacking up against Apple’s more contemporary silicon upon launch.
