Microsoft Outlook and Spark Can Now Default Mail Apps on iOS 14 [Update]

With Apple’s release of the iOS 14 update, users can now select third-party apps such as Microsoft Outlook to be the default mail app on their device.

The introduction of iOS 14 comes with the ability to choose supported third-party apps to use as defaults, as opposed to using Apple’s very own Mail app. According to The Verge, Microsoft Outlook is the first app to support this option. Users who have installed the iOS 14 update on either iPhone or iPad can now select Microsoft’s email app and begin using it as their default when sending and receiving emails.

Individual apps must be updated the support the option to become a default on an iPhone or iPad. In Microsoft Outlook’s case, the update has been made and users can head over to their Settings to begin making the change. Once in the Microsoft Outlook setting menu, users must tap on the option to make it the default app. Users can also revert back to using the Mail app as the default by following the same steps but choosing Apple’s Mail.

So far, Google has yet to update the Gmail app. However, prior to the release of iOS 14, Google did update the Chrome app. By following the same steps as above, users can select Google Chrome to become their default browser.

Microsoft’s Edge app is also available to be used as the default browser. As more developers continue to update their respective apps, additional third-party browsers and mail applications can be introduced as defaults in the future.

Update: Readdle’s excellent mail app Spark was also updated yesterday to support iOS 14, and also allows you to select it as your default email app.
