Stadium Browser is the Latest Way iOS Users Can Begin Playing Google Stadia

A new browser app has released on Apple’s App Store, giving users the ability to begin streaming Google Stadia on their iPhones and other Apple devices. Stadium is a full-screen browser running on iOS 14 and is the latest method to circumvent Apple’s App Store policies blocking Google Stadia.

In a Reddit post, u/zmknox discussed his new web browser app Stadium. It’s available now on iPhones and iPads running Apple’s latest iOS 14 updates. After downloading the app from the App Store, users must correctly input a primary URL and custom user agent (outlined by u/zmknox). Following that, users will need to sign in to their Google account and it will take you to Stadia’s landing page.

Stadium is compatible with Bluetooth MFI wireless controllers. Currently, it supports the Xbox Wireless Controller and Xbox Elite Series 2 controller. PlayStation’s DualShock 4 controller is also supported. However, u/zmknox does state that while theoretically, the Google Stadia controller can be paired over WiFi, there’s some sort of “secret sauce” that does not allow it to work on iOS devices.

Stadium comes on the heels of Amazon’s announcement of its own web-based streaming service. Amazon’s Luna will be launching its early access phase on Fire TV, PC, and iOS. The reasoning behind its availability on iOS is that uses a progressive web app (PWA) to bypass Apple’s policies that otherwise block Stadia, xCloud, and GeForce Now. In the comments of the Reddit post, u/zmknox said “the Luna announcement is actually what got me looking into if this worked with Stadia this past weekend.”

It’s currently unknown how long Stadium will be available. As it stands, Stadium should be allowed as Apple’s guidelines do state that “open Internet and web browser apps” can be used to “reach all users outside of the App Store”.
