After long months of search, Apple finally has announced that it has found the perfect person to run its brick and mortar stores: Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts. But that’s not all, for the first time in Apple’s history, the same person, Angela Ahrendts, will be in charge of the online stores as well. In a letter sent to corporate employees and obtained by 9to5Mac, Tim Cook shares the story of the successful hire.

As Cook explains, they first met last January, and he immediately knew that she is the talent for which Apple was looking. And, as the conversations went on, this feeling just got stronger, as she impressed him at each meeting.

She shares our values and our focus on innovation. She places the same strong emphasis as we do on the customer experience. She cares deeply about people and embraces our view that our most important resource and our soul is our people. She believes in enriching the lives of others and she is wicked smart. Angela has shown herself to be an extraordinary leader throughout her career and has a proven track record. She led Burberry through a period of phenomenal growth with a focus on brand, culture, core values and the power of positive energy.

In closing, Tim Cook thanked the company’s top retail staff for keeping the operations up to the company’s standards.

I’d like to add a special thanks to all of our retail leaders. Your strength, talent and leadership afforded me the luxury of taking the time to perform an exhaustive search to find the best person in the world for this role.

Although Angela Ahrendts accepted the role of Head of retail, she will commit to Apple in full only by next spring.
