CRTC Warns Canadians About Fraudsters Posing as ‘Do Not Call List’ Operators

The CRTC wants you to know there are illegal calls being made by fraudsters spoofing the toll-free number of the National Do Not Call List (DNCL), posing as operators.

These scammers are “making claims that the call recipient’s telephone number is about to expire from the National DNCL and that the number must re-registered over the phone.” This is unnecessary, as numbers added to the DNCL remain there permanently and do not require renewal, in a policy change made last year.

The CRTC says those that have received a call should file a complaint or call 1-866-580-DNCL (3625).

The CRTC says violators of the National DNCL and the Unsolicited Telecommunications Rules can be fined $1,500 per violation and companies up to $15,000 per violation.

You can sign up for the National DNCL here.
