Select Koodo Mobile customers in Saskatchewan and Manitoba have been receiving text notification offers of 1GB free data for six months.
Customers on the coveted $48/month Canada-wide calling plan with 5GB data have been targeted, with text messages coming from sender “5190”. The offer asks customers to reply “YES” or “NO” to opt-in, to receive an extra 1GB of data free per month, for six months, with strings attached.
Those who opt-in have seen the extra addition reflected on their plan profiles when logging into online accounts, thusly bringing their plans to $48 per month with 6GB total data, although for just six months.
According to the text offer, customers wishing to accept the offer have until July 15, 2016 to reply “YES” for the free gigabyte of data.
According to RFD forum members, after six months, the extra data offer will automatically be removed. Some ‘paranoid’ users are ignoring the offer, as they fear Koodo might “pull a fast one” and make users change plans once the free data offer expires.
