Fido Increases Prices of Select Plans by $5 Per Month for New Customers

Fido price increases

Rogers flanker brand Fido has increased prices on select tab plans by $5 per month for new customers.

Tab plans are offered on two-year contracts, allowing customers to purchase a smartphone for cheaper upfront, but with a more expensive monthly plan.

The Large tab, XL tab and XXL tab have all increased by $5 per month to now start at the following monthly prices:

  • Large tab: $95 —> $100
  • XL tab: $105 —> $110
  • XXL tab: $115 —> $120

These price increases are not applicable in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec, however (provinces with local competition).

There’s a silver lining, however, as Fido is also throwing up to 5GB of bonus data on select plans, whether it’s BYOD or on contract.

With more expensive smartphones on the horizon (folding devices from Samsung, for example), increasing monthly prices of these tab plans mean carriers can keep upfront costs appearing low.

With lower upfront costs on 2-year terms, sales teams can try to draw in customers that otherwise would not be able to afford expensive smartphones outright.

Rogers, Telus and Bell recently tried to explain why they all increased the price of the 2017 $60/10GB BYOD holiday plan.
