Rogers shared a new ad today touting its 5G network, featuring Apple’s latest iPhone 13 Pro and NHL All-Star, Connor McDavid. The video celebrates the return of NHL hockey for the 2021-22 season, which kicked off on October 12, 2021.

“Hockey is back and we couldn’t be more excited. Check out how #Rogers5G and the new iPhone 13 Pro are helping Edmonton Oilers and NHL-All Star Connor McDavid keep his edge,” explains Rogers.

The video shows Richmond Hill-born McDavid, and captain of the Edmonton Oilers, training outdoors while sporting a set of AirPods Pro in his ears (let’s hope he doesn’t get an ear infection), while using an iPhone 13 Pro in Sierra Blue. McDavid also is wearing an Apple Watch, but it’s hard to determine if it’s the latest Series 7 (update: Rogers confirmed with us it’s a Series 6).

“We always look for ways to enhance my performance. Rogers 5G and the new iPhone helps us do that,” says McDavid, referring to how training never stops as an NHL All-Star.

“Working with my trainers in real-time from anywhere—that’s a game-changer. Advance training over Rogers 5G—that’s how I keep my edge,” concludes McDavid.

The Rogers 5G network requires an Infinite plan, which starts at $80 per month with 15GB of full-speed data.

McDavid’s currently on an 8-year, $100 million USD contract with the Oilers, so it’s likely paying a 5G cellphone bill isn’t a problem for him.
