Rogers Applies to Build New Cell Tower in Erin, Ontario

The town of Erin, located in Wellington County, Ontario, located about 80 kilometres northwest of Toronto, may get a new Rogers cell tower.

According to a report from SouthWestOntario.ca, Rogers has applied to build a new cell tower for the north part of town.

Jeff McKay, site acquisition specialist for Rogers, said “It’s to fill a coverage gap,” adding, “This will bring mobile broadband to everybody in the coverage area.”

While Rogers towers exist in the east and west parts of Erin, there is a roughly two-kilometre wide gap north of the town.

The application is being processed by the federal government’s Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) department, with McKay noting “it’s at its final stages.”

Consent and support from Erin is required for the Rogers tower, but the final authority rests with ISED.

The Rogers tower location is being proposed at Erin Park Drive and Erinville Drive, in an industrial part of the town located near businesses SpandrelTech, Fireball Performance Coatings, Turnstile Security Systems.
