Rogers Sportsnet Sees 10.7 Million Canadians Watch Return of NHL, NBA on the Weekend

Rogers Sportsnet has announced Canadians “returned in droves” over the past weekend to watch the return of the NHL and NBA action, including the Toronto Raptors.

Both leagues were previously shut down in the spring due to COVID-19 lockdowns, but action resumed with the launch of the NHL’s Stanley Cup Qualifiers and the NBA on Sportsnet, with the company noting 10.7 million viewers on Saturday and Sunday, equating to 29% of the population of Canada.

Sportsnet says over 33 hours of live coverage started at 9am PT on Saturday across all TV and live streaming brands include radio. The company says it hit an average minute audience of 821,000 on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday and Sunday, 9.58 million Canadians watched all or some of Sportsnet’s NHL coverage.

Meanwhile, the return of the Raptors on Saturday night saw 2.59 million viewers in the evening, seeing an average minute audience of 890,000, which was the “second most-watched regular season Raptors broadcast ever on Sportsnet.”
