Christmas is here and Sasktel is prepared: the carriers expects that its customers will make roughly 600,000 long distance calls tomorrow, on Christmas Day, December 25. This estimate includes about 150,000 wireless and 450,000 wireline long distance calls.

Furthermore, the regional carrier projects that customers will send about 8 million messages on the same day.

“Christmas is a time for families to get in touch and celebrate together,” said Don McMorris, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “We would like to thank all of SaskTel’s customers for continuing to allow us to facilitate that special connection and to wish them a safe and happy holiday.”

However, Sasktel warns that the sudden increase in long distance calls may cause temporary network congestion. To avoid any inconvenience, the carrier suggests its subscribers to keep in mind that the busy hours are between 10 am – 2 pm and 7 pm – 10 pm.

Of the projected 600,000 calls 40% are expected to be made to location within Saskatchewan, 54% will be to Canadian destinations outside the province and 6% will go the the US or other international locations.
