Freedom Mobile Launches Home Internet: $55 for 150Mbps Plan [u]

Last month, Freedom Mobile’s website showed signs of an upcoming home Internet offering for existing customers, detailed in a support page. Home Internet was being offered to a limited number of test customers in Calgary, Alberta.

As of today, Freedom Mobile has launched its Home Internet offering for existing customers, as the company’s website now shows marketing pages for its internet plan.

“All the Internet you want for $55 [per month] when added to a Freedom Big Gig Unlimited Plan,” (emphasis ours) details the Freedom Mobile website. The $55/month plan comes with up to 150 Mbps download speeds, up to 15 Mbps upload speeds and unlimited data.

Shaw offers basic internet with up to 300 Mbps download speeds for $90 per month on a two-year term, to put this Freedom Mobile Internet plan into perspective.



Freedom Mobile’s fine print says home Internet offering is “exclusively available to Freedom Mobile customers with a postpaid wireless plan of $40 or higher.” Internet includes a Freedom WiFi Gateway modem, part of a ‘Self Connect’ kit and Digital Support via chat.

“Freedom Home Internet not available in all regions,” says the website. We’ll be getting more details on locations and availability shortly, stay tuned.

Update: Freedom Mobile tells iPhone in Canada home internet is available in B.C. and Alberta where both Freedom Mobile and Shaw operates.

“Freedom Home Internet gives our customers access to all the in-home connectivity they want, paired with the innovative wireless plans from Freedom Mobile that they already love,” said Paul McAleese, President, Wireless, Shaw Communications, in a statement. “Freedom Home Internet is designed for Freedom Mobile customers who also want a fast, self-managed, in-home internet service.”
