Shaw has announced the launch of Shaw Gig WiFi, which is the unveiling of its new Shaw Fibre+ Gateway 2.0 modem, which features faster WiFi 6 technology.

“By leveraging WiFi 6 technology through Shaw’s new Fibre+ Gateway 2.0 modem, Shaw Gig WiFi offers better quality connections and connectivity throughout the home while supporting increased demand for speed and bandwidth today and into the future,” said Paul Deverell, President, Consumer, Shaw Communications, in a statement.

The new Gateway 2.0 modem has dual-band WiFi 6, four ethernet ports, 8 antennas (half 2.4 GHz and 5GHz) and will tie into the Shaw Home app.

“Shaw is Western Canada’s leader in Gig speed internet, with ultrafast gigabit download speeds available to over a million more homes than TELUS,” touted the company in a press release.

Shaw goes on to say its new Fibre+ Gateway 2.0 “demonstrated better throughput and lower latency than TELUS’ WiFi Hub”, based on testing from lab Kyrio.

The Shaw Fibre+ Gateway 2.0 modem is available for all new and existing Fibre+ Gig 1.5 customers in Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg.
