Telus has announced this morning select Optik TV plans will now include free Amazon Prime. Also new today is the ability to watch Prime Video on a 4K Optik TV digital box (channel 424).

Amazon Prime normally costs $79 per year or $7.99 per month, but this will now be included for free, for customers who do not already have Prime.

What’s the catch? In order to qualify, you must be subscribed to the ‘4 Theme Packs + 1 Premium’ package or higher to qualify (Amazon Prime will qualify as one of the theme packs).

What about customers who already have a Prime membership? The company explains, “If you have an existing Amazon Prime account, you will not be able to activate your subscription to Amazon Prime through TELUS.”

“We are relentless about providing Optik TV customers with the best entertainment experience in Canada. By offering Amazon Prime in Optik packages, customers enjoy seamless access to all that a Prime membership has to offer, including fast, free shipping on millions of items, Prime Video, and Amazon Music Prime,” said Zainul Mawji, President, Home Solutions, TELUS, in an issued statement.

Amazon Prime for Optik TV customers will also have access to full Prime benefits, such as same-day, one-day and two-day shipping speeds in select cities, plus access to Amazon Music Prime and more.

Last year, Telus launched Optik TV packages that included free Netflix 4K premium subscriptions.

Update July 31: A Telus spokesperson told iPhone in Canada, “this offer is not available to current Prime customers. They can still access the Prime Video app, though, with their current login information.”
