
Telus will shell out $155 million in and around Edmonton this year to enable faster Internet services in several communities; expand the reach of 4G LTE; and pave the way for its Internet-based TV service, Optik TV, to reach more homes, the carrier announced today.
“TELUS’ significant $155 million investment in Edmonton builds on our ongoing commitment to providing our customers with the world’s most advanced communications technology and infrastructure,” said Andrea Goertz, Telus Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer. “
The investment is part of the company’s commitment to invest a total of $2.6 billion in Alberta between 2014 and 2016. Also, by 2016, Telus’ total investment in the area will surpass $39 billion.
The same expansion strategy is pushing Canada’s No. 2 wireless player to invest $185 million in and around Calgary as well. With the latest announcement, the carrier emphasized its commitment to providing local customers with “the world’s fastest wireless technology” and faster Internet connections.
