St. Albert, Alberta, is set to see a $100 million investment from Telus to build out the latter’s fibre optic network.
Along with St. Alberta, neighbouring communities in Sturgeon County will also benefit from the investment, with construction to begin in June and completion expected by the end of 2020.
“This investment to bring TELUS PureFibre to the City of St. Albert and parts of Sturgeon County will future-proof the communities for generations to come,” said Tony Geheran, TELUS Chief Customer Officer, in an issued statement to iPhone in Canada.
Telus says its PureFibre network is capable of gigabit speeds, ready to benefit residents and businesses. The infrastructure will provide Telus groundwork for future 5G technologies.
The company reiterates ”a direct connection to the TELUS PureFibre network comes at no cost to taxpayers or residents,” with employees set to notify residents for permission to connect their homes to the fibre optic network, to gain instant access to symmetrical Internet speeds.
Telus says the investment is part of its $4.2 billion commitment in Alberta between 2017-2020.
