
TELUS has released their Q4 2012 earnings and their wireless division ended the year by adding an additional 112,000 subscribers, bringing their total cellphone user base to 7.67 million, up 4.5% from a year ago, with postpaid subscribers also increasing 85% compared to a year ago. Smartphone subscribers now represent 66% of their postpaid user base, up 53% compared to a year ago.
Wireless revenues experienced a 7.7% growth totalling $1.5 billion for Q4 compared to the year ago quarter while blended ARPU (average revenue per user) increased to $60.95. Data revenue continues to drive growth at $507 million for the quarter.
Darren Entwistle, TELUS President and CEO stressed “our valued customers are staying with us longer as evidenced by our industry leading 1.12 per cent postpaid wireless monthly churn rate.” TELUS also announced John Gossling, a former CFO from CTVglobemedia and Rogers became chief financial officer on January 1, 2013, replacing Bob McFarlane, who retired at the end of 2012.
