Telus to Invest $28 Million to Expand PureFibre and 5G in Quebec

Telus announced on Thursday it will further expand its PureFibre and 5G networks in Quebec, with an investment of $28 million.

The telecom said it will invest $8 million in the North Shore region this year, bringing connectivity to Innu community of Ekuanitshit and the municipalities of Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan and Port-Menier. This investment comes alongside the nearly $3 million in investments from the federal and provincial government under Operation High Speed.

“Our 75 team members and ecosystem of partners in the North Shore are using technology to create a better future for citizens by bridging the digital divide with our world-class networks,” says Nathalie Dionne, TELUS’ Interim Vice-President, Home Solutions and Customer Excellence in Quebec, in a statement.

Telus also noted a $20 million private investment in the Lower St. Lawrence region, for a new wireless site in Saint-Damase. The investment will expand PureFibre to Saint-Mathieu-Rioux and Lac-des-Aigles, and in the Lac Taché sector of Rimouski’s ZEC (Controlled Development Zone). Telus says this investment is coupled with the $1.8 million from Operation High Speed as well.

“Ninety-nine per cent of families and businesses in our Quebec territory are connected to our PureFibre network, and we continue to invest with the objective of connecting all households to high speed Internet by September 2022,” added Dionne.

Telus says it plans to invest $11 billion in Quebec by 2026 and $70 billion in Canada during the same timeframe.
