TELUS Warns Wireless and Landline Users of ‘Spoofing’ Scam

TELUS is warning its customers of a ‘spoofing’ scam affecting its wireless and landline customers in BC and Alberta.

Essentially fraudsters re-program their caller ID to appear as if they are legitimate businesses. When potential victims answer the phone, fraudsters claim to be either TELUS or another organization announcing they customer has won a prize. They then attempt to gain personal or credit card info, which can result in unauthorized charges or identity theft.

TELUS recommends users to hang up if they receive a suspicious call and to never give out personal information over the phone. The company says if you believe you were compromised to call TELUS Fraud Management at 1-877-567-2062.

Just use common sense out there people. Don’t give out your credit card or personal info over the phone. Let us know if you’ve received any of these suspicious calls.
