Videotron Axes Early Cancellation Fees for Unlimited Music Customers

Today marks the end of Videotron’s Unlimited Music service, after a CRTC ruled out the practice of differential pricing, which allowed providers to pick and choose which data streams to charge for.

Videotron last month started giving their customers affected by the end of the music service extra data at no charge, and now it appears they are also allowing customers to end their contracts without any early termination fees.

According to one RFD user, the letter Videotron sent out to customers includes a line that reads “For more information, or to modify or cancel your subscription at not cost, contact us within 30 days following the cancellation of our Unlimited Music Service.” A Videotron rep confirmed he could get out of his contract and not pay over $800 in early termination fees.

This means someone looking to exit out of a contract early can do so and not pay their remaining hardware subsidies, allowing them to upgrade to another device early, switch to BYOD or port to another carrier.

Let us know if you’re going to try this and if you’re hearing the same from Videotron, if you were on the Unlimited Music plan.
