Google Confirms Plans to Release New Nest Cams in 2021

The Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is now being discontinued. However, Google has confirmed that a new line of Nest Cams will be released in 2021.

Following a report that the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor was out of stock, 9to5Google has reported that Google is planning a new lineup of Nest Cam devices for the year. It was discovered that the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, which was first released in 2017, was unavailable to purchase in most countries. Google then confirmed that the device was being discontinued. However, Google did state that it was “investing in new innovations.” While the company did not disclose their plans, it was said that Google does have plans to release a “new lineup of security cameras for 2021.”

Google’s Nest Cam offering has risen in popularity over the course of the past few years. Nest Cams first released in 2015 before Google added a differentiator between indoor and outdoor when it announced the Nest Cam Outdoor in 2016. Following that, Google released the IQ variant of both the Indoor and Outdoor models in 2017. These higher-end cameras incorporated a 4K camera sensor with HDR, streaming in 1080p. It was also capable of 12x digital zoom. The IQ models also have facial recognition capabilities.

However, since the advent of the Nest Cam IQ, Google has not released a Nest Cam product. In 2020, Nest Cam Indoor received a price cut, making it the lowest priced Nest Cam available at $179 CAD. Nest Cam Outdoor and Nest Cam IQ Indoor are still currently available. There’s no certainty on whether any of the available models will be phased out once Google begins releasing its new models later this year.

In 2020, Nest Aware began rolling out in Canada. This subscription service enabled Nest Cams to begin recording when sound or motion was detected by the device.
