Google is Hosting a Virtual ‘Hey Google’ Smart Home Summit on July 8th

Google will be hosting a virtual smart home developer event on July 8th. Having cancelled its previously planned Google I/O conference, the company is using this event as an opportunity to share new features for developers and users alike.

The virtual summit will feature a 45-minute long keynote, presented by Michele Turner, the Product Management director of the Smart Home Ecosystem. In a blog post, Google has said that Turner will “introduce new tools that make it easier for you to develop with Google Assistant”. In addition, the ‘Hey Google’ summit will host partner panels to shine a spotlight on industry leaders as they discuss the impact COVID-19 has had on the industry.

Google’s I/O conference was originally set to be held from May 12th-14th. Google cancelled the event in March when COVID-19 had become a global crisis. As with many other events this year, Google wants to share its news with as many users and partners at once.

Google’s registration page for the ‘Hey Google’ summit reads: “COVID-19 has made it difficult for us to meet you at I/O, Global Developer Summits, and EMEA Smart Home Summit. Our team does not want to miss the opportunity to connect, and we decided to take things virtual!”

Google has also posted a breakdown of the schedule, as the summit will run from 1 PM EDT to approximately 3 PM EDT.
