Google Stadia Players Can Finally Join Multiplayer Games Without an Invite

Google has finally enabled players to join and play multiplayer games together without an invitation. This basic function has come nearly two years after the launch of the cloud gaming service.

Google Stadia has been put under the microscope since its launch in late November 2019. The cloud gaming service launched without a lot of quality of life features players have come to expect from a gaming ecosystem. Until now, players had to send an invitation to another in order to have that player join their multiplayer session. That’s no longer the case, however, as reported by 9to5Google.

In an updated support page, Google has stated that players can now join multiplayer games without an invitation. The page directly references Ubisoft’s latest Far Cry 6 as an example of a game where players can join a co-op session without having an invitation sent to the other. Google does state that the feature will only be available in “select games.”

In order to enable other players to join you, you must navigate to the privacy setting under ‘Your activity.’ From there, the player must go to ‘Current game’ and turn on ‘Join your current game.’ Players can manage who can join their games and choose between All Players or Friends. Alternatively, you can select ‘Only you’ or ‘Private’ to turn off this feature.
