According to Apple’s latest stats, there are about 400 million iOS devices out there worldwide, while Eric Schmidt of Google expects the number of Android devices to exceed a billion by next year.
Still, when it comes to usage habits, about 99% of studies surprise us with the results: despite its 72% of the total market share, the 13.9% of iOS users simply use their device more. And when we say more, we are referring to Web surfing, app purchasing, and as mobile monetization companies show, they generate more revenue per person and spend more on e-commerce sites.
It may come as somewhat frustrating news for Google that iOS users watch more video than Android device users, as the FreeWheel Video Monetization report shows, cited by BusinessInsider.
According to FreeWheel’s study, iOS devices accounted for 60% of non-PC video views during Q3 of 2012, while Android grabbed only half of the iOS share — 30%. But that doesn’t mean that Android isn’t catching up, although it may take some time.
Explanations are numerous, but one thing is certain: mobile market domination doesn’t necessarily equate to high content consumption.
