iPad Continues To Reign In 2013 With 81% Tablet Web Share [Chitika]

Chitika Insights has released its January tablet update today, with numbers clearly reflecting iPad’s domination in tablet web share, owning over four-fifths of Web traffic in January for the US and Canada (via TNW). The iPad now has 81% tablet web share in North America, while Kindle Fire grabs 7.7%,and Galaxy line takes 3.9%.

It must however be noted that iPad’s web share has actually gone down 5 percentage points from the 86 percent Web share it held a couple of months ago. Chitika Insights  also observed a strong presence of Kindle Fire usage in the Android tablet market following the holiday season. Kindle Fire tablets grew from 4.88 impressions per 100 iPad impressions to 9.48 impressions from last month. Google Nexus, Samsung Galaxy, and Barnes & Nobile Nook tablets also saw smaller gains this past month.

The data used to compile current market share (for the “Tablet Usage Share” bar chart) was drawn across the time range of January 19th to January 25th 2013.

As observed in our post-holiday mobile device report, it appears that Christmas was the point at which tablet usage shares dramatically shifted. There, we measured Kindle Fire usage share within our network at 7.51%, and it has remained relatively the same at 7.7% one month later. Similarly, the iPad was at 79% following the holiday season, and has recovered slightly to 81%.
