iPhone Games: Tank Hero

Canadian iOS developers Clapfoot Inc. have released their latest game, Tank Hero, for iPhone and iPod touch and it is very well done.

Tank Hero is a fast paced 3D tank action game where players are challenged with destroying enemy tanks with cannons, heat seekers, grenades, and more. The game features two worlds, each with 40 levels (I’m on World 1, Level 15). Initially World 1 is available and once it is completed, World 2 unlocks.

Three game modes, campaign, survival, and time trial, keep things fresh and challenging and throughout the game, players can upgrade their weapons as they progress.

Also, as players progress, the game becomes more difficult by introducing newer enemies. Tank Hero features five different enemy types and so far I have encountered three, the third being extremely difficult (in my opinion), so I cannot imagine what the last two types will be like.

However, while the levels, game play, sound, and visuals are all fantastic, for me it is the control schemes that really shine. Tank Hero features three different control schemes to match play styles. Players may choose from Dual Virtual D-Pads and Tap to fire (my choice), One Virtual D-Pad and Tap to fire, or Swipe to move and Tap to fire.

The game is very well done and a lot of fun, but you can say that for many iOS games. In any case, if you have a $1.00 to spend, try Tank Hero. You’ll like it.

Tank Hero is available in the App Store for $0.99.

Note that Tank Hero is compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and 3rd/4th generation iPod touch.
