Pod2g Now Has A Working Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 4 on iOS 5.1

Earlier today pod2g sent out a public message on Twitter, letting everyone know he has achieved an untethered jailbreak in his iPhone 4, running iOS 5.1

So, that’s it, right? Should be released anytime now, right? Well, not quite. There is still a lot of work to go into making a user friendly app to release to the public. Plus, making versions for both Mac and Windows. Looking at his conversations on Twitter today, it would seem pod2g is working with p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team, to bring the jailbreak to the public. They are the ones that brought us the GreenPois0n jailbreak.

They will also need to test the jailbreak on other devices. Hopefully this will work on all devices that support iOS 5.1, including the new iPad, but we’ll have to wait and see.

This jailbreak that they have been working on takes a total of 7 vulnerabilities, to make it happen. Apparently, there are 5 exploits used to make the actual jailbreak happen, but then they needed 2 more to make the software legal to release to the public. Quite a lot of work went into this. It almost seems like a waste to burn all 7 exploits on this jailbreak, when iOS 6 could be coming in a few months. We’ll be following this closely, to see how it progresses.
