Microsoft May Soon Enable Players to Create Their Own Xbox Dynamic Backgrounds

Microsoft is said to be working on a new system to enable players to create their own animated Xbox Dynamic backgrounds for PC and console.

Credible leaker Aggiornamenti Lumia (via Windows Central) has released new info on an “unnamed project.” This project is said to be a new Xbox app that would provide the necessary tools required for players to create animated backgrounds and add custom effects. This would result in a completed Xbox dynamic background, usable on both Windows PC and Xbox consoles.

Since the dawn of the Xbox Series X/S, dynamic backgrounds have been the only major addition to the Xbox dashboard. Microsoft later began utilizing 4K HDR on the dashboard but has not overhauled the menu system since the Xbox One generation.

Based on the leaked image of the software, it appears as though players will be able to craft their own dynamic background by layering stating and moving images. There appear to be segments for different images, allowing the creator to organize and bring each layer to the forefront or shift it back. A number of effects also seem to be available.

Of course, while this software is reported to be in development, there is no definitive way to know when Microsoft plans to release it to the public. Given that Microsoft is planning its Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 on June 12, Microsoft may announce the software there.
