Amazon Acquires Eero, Maker of Home Mesh WiFi Systems

Amazon has acquired eero, which makes a home mesh WiFi solution.

According to a press release, Amazon said “eero is already delighting Amazon customers with its products and services, as indicated by eero’s 4.6-star product rating on Amazon.com.”

The eero Pro Wi-Fi system sells on Amazon.ca for $699. The acquisition by Amazon means there’s a good chance we’ll see the price drop and expanded availability of future products. Having a solid network connection for Amazon products is one key factor to owning the smart home race.

Home networking can be difficult when it comes to providing widespread coverage, but mesh WiFi systems make it incredibly easy. With eero, their systems are “self-updating, self-fixing, and self-improving all the time,” similar to what we’ve seen with other mesh setups like Google Wifi.

“We are incredibly impressed with the eero team and how quickly they invented a WiFi solution that makes connected devices just work,” said Dave Limp, SVP of Amazon Devices and Services, in a press release. “We have a shared vision that the smart home experience can get even easier, and we’re committed to continue innovating on behalf of customers.”

Nick Weaver, Co-Founder and CEO of eero said, “By joining the Amazon family, we’re excited to learn from and work closely with a team that is defining the future of the home, accelerate our mission, and bring eero systems to more customers around the globe.”

Amazon says “completion of this transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.”
