Amazon Prime Day Returning Next Year; Canada’s Bestseller: Huggies Diapers

The inaugural Amazon Prime Day has come and gone and according to the online retail giant, it was a major success, breaking global records that exceeded Black Friday.

Prime-eligible countries including Canada helped order 34.4 million items, which worked out to 398 per second. Worldwide order growth jumped 266% over the same day a year ago, plus it was an 18% growth compared to Black Friday 2014. Amazon says they “can’t wait to do it again next year:

“Prime Day was a record-breaker globally – it surpassed all of our expectations,” said Alexandre Gagnon, Country Manager for Amazon.ca. “This week has been the busiest ever for Prime signups and we saw more members shopping on Amazon.ca on Prime Day than on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. We can’t wait to do it again next year.”

I didn’t end up buying anything on Prime Day, as most of the Lightning Deals worth jumping on were sold out by the time I found out about them. Amazon hyped up the event so people were expecting some big sales. Most took to social media to vent their disappointment with the event, comparing it to a garage sale instead of a major discount day.

What did you buy on Prime Day, aside from diapers?
