The company says this new 1-million square foot facility will bring over 600 full-time jobs with benefits, and marking the twentieth fulfillment centre in Canada and seventh in Ontario. Amazon says it supports over 4,000 full-time employees in Ontario, to go with an extra 1,000 at its two Toronto tech hub locations.

“We’re excited about our growth in Toronto, which gives us the opportunity to better serve our customers in the region,” said Vibhore Arora, Director of Regional Operations of Amazon Canada, in a press release. “The Greater Toronto Area has a talented workforce, and we are committed to providing the area with job opportunities that have great pay and benefits.”

The new Amazon facility will see employees “pick, pack, and ship small items to customers ranging from toys and baby products to small electronics.”

Amazon says it employs over 10,000 people at its fulfillment centres, corporate offices and other facilities in Canada.

The new Scarborough fulfillment centre is being developed by Broccolini, in partnership with owner Manulife Investment Management.
