Google Shares Android 12 Emoji Overhaul Ahead of World Emoji Day

Just in time for World Emoji Day, Google has shared its latest set of emojis for use on Android devices. According to Emojipedia, these updates are coming to Android 12 later in the year but will be made available on Gmail, Google Chat, YouTube Live Chat and Chrome OS this month.

Prominent design changes released by Google today focus on various Food & Drink, Travel & Places, Object, and Symbol emojis. And although this update will not include any brand new emojis, Google will certainly add Emoji 14.0 support to Android and other products.

Google notes that almost every emoji in these categories has been revised in some way.

“Pie emoji is a curious one — it previously looked like a very specific American pumpkin pie (a family favorite!). Now it’s something everyone recognizes.

This minor change means this one emoji can represent a whole host of pies — apple pie, blueberry pie, strawberry pie, cherry pie, chicken pot pie, beef and mushroom…the list goes on.”
