Nintendo Announces ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Update and Paid Expansion

Nintendo today announced in a special Direct that Animal Crossing: New Horizons would be getting a substantial update and a paid expansion called Happy Home Paradise.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise is a $32.99 CAD DLC expansion releasing on November 5, and it’s also included as part of the new Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription tier.

“With all this new content, we can’t wait for players to rediscover the vibrant world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and enjoy new opportunities for relaxation and self-expression,” said Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Communications. “For daily players, returning residents and newcomers alike, we hope both Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise and the free update bring more experiences to your personal island paradise for a long time to come.”

Taking place on a different island, not your own, the expansion calls on players to build new homes for villagers. You can select which island to build their vacation home on, and there are multiple seasons and weather elements depending on what you think the villager might want.

Players can select the wallpaper, mood lighting, and the outside design with things like fences and trees. Check out the detailed video above to learn lots more about Happy Home Paradise.

“Clients with different dream vacation requests will visit a new resort area located in an archipelago, made up of several different islands, where the Paradise Planning team is located. You can talk to a client and find out the details of their requests for a vacation home, and then make their dreams happen,” reads a line from Nintendo’s description.

Unexpectedly, Nintendo used this announcement to reveal the price of the upcoming Switch Online “expansion pack.” The service, which adds classic N64 and Sega Genesis games to the existing Switch Online offerings, will cost $50 per year or $80 for a family plan.

The N64 games on offer include the likes of Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Starfox 64, while the Sega Genesis titles involve games such as Ecco the Dolphin, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Streets of Rage 2.
