Apple CEO To Meet Samsung CEO In San Francisco Court To Settle Patent Issues

A new publication by FOSS Patents (via MacRumors) has revealed that Apple CEO Tim Cook is going to meet Samsung CEO Gee-Sung Choi in the next 3 months at a San Francisco courthouse for a court-moderated discussion. The purpose of the meeting is to settle the long-standing patent dispute between the two companies. The report also points out that the settlement talks are “semi-voluntary” meaning that the court can only order the two parties to meet and talk but can not force them to reach an agreement.

Below is a joint court statement:

As directed by the Court, Apple and Samsung are both willing to participate in a Magistrate Judge Settlement Conference with Judge Spero as mediator. At Apple, the chief executive officer and general counsel are the appropriate decision-makers, and they will represent Apple during the upcoming settlement discussions. At Samsung, the chief executive officer and general counsel are also the appropriate decision-makers, and they will represent Samsung during these settlement discussions.

Getting the two bosses meet instead of their representatives is perhaps in the best interest of both companies as it also demonstrates for the court a good faith effort at resolving the dispute. What do you think guys, will this “patents war” between the two tech giants finally come to an end?
