Apple announced at WWDC 2020 new technologies for developers, while also detailed major changes were coming to the app review process for the first time.
The company said back in June it would soon allow developers to appeal App Store decisions, plus also challenge guidelines as well.
As of today, Apple has rolled out its mechanism for developers to do exactly what it detailed at WWDC.
“The App Store is dedicated to providing a great experience for everyone. To continue offering a safe place for users to download apps and helping you successfully develop apps that are secure, high-quality, reliable, and respectful of user privacy, we’ve updated the app review process as announced at WWDC20,” reiterated Apple.
Apple says “for apps that are already on the App Store, bug fixes will no longer be delayed over guideline violations except for those related to legal issues.”
For guideline violations, Apple says developers can address these in their next submission.
“And now, in addition to appealing decisions about whether an app violates guidelines, you can suggest changes to the guidelines,” explains Apple’s news release to developers.
“We also encourage you to submit your App Store and Apple development platform suggestions so we can continue to improve experiences for the developer community,” concludes the company.
These changes are important for developers because previously, decisions made by the App Store team were usually final with no way for developers to appeal, aside from trying to get attention from the media for their plight. Apple dealt with an issue regarding the Hey email app before WWDC and more recently has been battling Epic Games in a legal fight in regards to App Store guidelines.
